Postdoctoral Researcher/Research Software Engineer - University of Delaware

The Computational and Research Programming Lab (CRPL) (https: // crpl.cis.udel.edu/) research group (led by Prof. SunitaChandrasekaran (https: // www. eecis.udel.edu/~schandra/) is seeking to hire a postdoctoral researcher, with computer science training, for the Exascale Computing Project (ECP) Scaling OpenMP With LLVm for Exascale Performance and Portability (SOLLVE) - in short ECP SOLLVE project (https: // www. exascaleproject.org/research-project/sollve/)

The CRPL research group in the Department of Computer & Information Sciences, University of Delaware was created by Prof. Chandrasekaran in September 2015. Since then, the group has steadily grown working on projects both nationally and internationally. We are currently 6 PhD students, 3 Masters students and several undergraduate research students.

Our projects are funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Department of Energy (DOE), the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), Nemours duPont Hospital for Children, Leidos Biomedical Research Center (FNLCR), NVIDIA and CASUS (Center for Advanced Systems Understanding) at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) - Germany. We work on both foundational and applied computer science.

The ECP SOLLVE is highly visible R&D project that focuses on delivering a high-quality robust implementation of standard compliant OpenMP (a directive- based programming model) possibly with extensions, as part of the LLVM compiler infrastructure, create a validation and verification testsuite and work closely with the application developers while they port their large-scale codes to OpenMP preparing the same for the upcoming Exascale architecture. The SOLLVE team engages closely with vendors such as AMD, HPE/Cray and the broader community.

About The Position:

This is a full-time fully funded position for 2 years (starting ASAP) according to the standard terms of postdoctoral research contracts at UD including benefits and competitive salary based on qualifications. The salary range for the job will be $80, 000 to $90, 000. You will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of ECP Software Stack that entails contributing directly to the development of OpenMP research and development while preparing OpenMP for the upcoming exascale system thus facilitating the usability of OpenMP by many scientific application developers. You will learn a great deal about exactable computing from both the hardware and software standpoint. You will be exploring some of the world's finest supercomputers including Summit at Oak Ridge National Lab (ORNL), the exascale supercomputer, Frontier at ORNL, Perlmutter @ NESRC, LBNL among others. You will have a tremendous opportunity to work closely with vendors and collaborate with some of the world class researchers including scientists from the national labs, universities, and industries. You will be part of a dynamic, supportive, and diverse working environment.

Experience working with LLVM and/or Clang compiler development experience.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to prepare scientific results for publications and/or presentations at relevant seminars and meetings.
