Postdoctoral Fellow - Neuroscience and Engineering

Dr. Daniel Aharoni’s laboratory at UCLA currently has multiple open positions for postdoctoral researchers. These are all NIH funded positions at the interface of neuroscience, engineering, and physics. We are looking for highly motivated, creative, and independent researchers interested in developing, implementing, and using novel tools to address fundamental limitations in neurobiological research. These positions will require a broad set of skills, much of which can be further developed in lab, that span engineering, neuroscience, and computation. In addition, we are looking for researchers that can clearly and effectively communicate across disciplines and have a commitment to open-source development and dissemination.

All open positions will be a mixture of advanced tool development and basic neuroscience research with the amount of each tailored to an individual’s interests. All novel tool/technique development projects are directly motivated by open research questions and generally focus on advancing neural/behavioral recording/processing techniques in naturally behaving animals. Neuroscience research projects use tools and techniques developed in lab and generally focus around understanding Hippocampal CA1 function across space, time, and task. Applicants must thrive in highly collaborative environments and work well in team-based projects.

Previous experience, and an advanced understanding, in some (or all) of the following Engineering areas is a requirement for these open positions. Applicants should also have experience, or at least significant interest, in applying novel tools to basic neuroscience research.

•Neural imaging and processing techniques

•Electrophysiology recording and processing techniques

•Modeling

•Analyzing neural and behavioral data

•Machine learning

•Physics:

•Experimental design

•Solid intuitions of the physical world

•Computation and modelling

•Other:

•Real-time processing

•Open-source development, documentation, dissemination

•Working with very large data

•Database and networking

•Effective communication
