Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out research in Project LEO, a large demo project funded under the – ‘Prospering from the energy revolution' programme. The project aims to transform the technology and markets that underpin Oxfordshire's energy system, and demonstrate that it is possible to meet energy needs in a way that benefits both people and planet. LEO is working with individuals, communities and organisations throughout Oxfordshire to explore how to re-engineer the technology and markets that underpin our energy system to make this happen. The project is led and managed by Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks.

The main duties involve carrying out research on the development of Local Energy Oxfordshire, focusing on the actors/stakeholders, their roles and interactions. You will manage your own research and administrative activities on a day to day basis, co-ordinating aspects of work as needed to meet deadlines. You will be evaluating project activities and capturing learnings. You will contribute research publications to the project, including journal papers and reports. Another duty is to present research outputs and represent the project at conferences, workshops and meetings. You will contribute to proposals and plans to raise research funds through grant applications.

You must hold, or be close to completion of, a relevant PhD/DPhil qualification, or have equivalent experience. You will have a thorough understanding of the research literature on community energy and distributed energy resources, including demand-side response. You will have a systems- based understanding of energy. This will include a grounding in the technical aspects of energy systems, especially in relation to electricity distribution network operation, and a good understanding of social and economic aspects (or vice versa). We are also looking for good communication skills, with evidence of publication for academic readers and communication with practitioners and the general public. You will have a meticulous approach to research with excellent attention to detail.
