Postdoctoral position in breast cancer treatment resistance using single-cell epigenetic technologies

A 3-year postdoctoral position is available at the Department of Cancer Genetics, Institute for Cancer Research, Oslo University Hospital, Norway. The position is funded by the Norwegian Cancer Society as part of the project “Reversal of resistance to hormonal treatment using single-cell epigenetic technologies in breast cancer” headed by Dr. Thomas Fleischer in collaboration with Prof. Tero Aittokallio and Dr. Xavier Tekpli. Treatment resistance is a major hurdle for curing patients with ER positive breast cancer, and recent knowledge suggests that acquired epigenetic alterations are key resistance-driving mechanisms. However, analysis of bulk tissue lacks the precision to detect and decipher the characteristics of key subpopulations with resistance-driving alterations. This project will therefore interrogate epigenetic alterations in breast tumors using single-cell sequencing in patients undergoing hormonal treatment. Further, the project will utilize CRISPR epigenetic editing to find mechanisms to reverse resistance to treatment in pre-clinical models. The candidate will be employed in the project group “Epigenomics of Breast Cancer” (https://www.ous-research.no/fleischer/) with focus on understanding the contribution of epigenetic alterations to breast cancer development, as well as using the rich information contained in the epigenetics of tumor cell to develop clinically applicable biomarkers. The project group in organized within the Tero Aittokallio’s group (https://www.ous-research.no/aittokallio/). We are seeking a highly motivated candidate to join our team of researchers. In your role as postdoc, you will have the opportunity to shape and lead single-cell analysis projects to investigate the interaction between hormone therapy and epigenetic features of single cells. The candidate will receive training and guidance and work in a social, dynamic, multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural environment. Tasks The candidate is expected to work independently on sample preparation for single-cell sequencing, including nuclear extraction; conduct the single-cell sequencing experiments, including optimization of methods; and perform bioinformatic analyses. The candidate will also perform CRISPR epigenetic editing. Candidates with prior experience in 10X or similar technologies will be prioritized.
