Position Overview

Essential Job Duties

The Mobile Imaging, Sensing, and Diagnostics Lab at NC State University is hiring a full-time postdoctoral scholar immediately. The postdoctoral scholar will be mentored by Prof. Qingshan Wei in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (CBE) to conduct research focusing on plant sensor development and plant disease diagnostics. Specifically, the candidate will develop and optimize a microneedle-based plant sensor device that can rapidly isolate DNA/RNA from various plant tissues and perform nucleic acid amplification/genotyping directly in the field.

The candidate is expected to have a recent Ph.D. degree in chemistry, engineering, plant biology/pathology, or relevant fields. Candidates with extensive training and expertise in molecular assay technologies (e.g., PCR, LAMP, genotyping, DNA sequencing, etc.) will be given priority consideration. Candidates with background in plant biology/pathology, analytical chemistry, chemical sensors, and microfabrication are strongly encouraged to apply. Successful applicants must also demonstrate a strong record of collaboration and working in a multidisciplinary team.

The initial appointment will be for one year and renewable for additional years upon satisfactory performance and mutual agreement. Salary is commensurate with experience.

· The candidate is expected to lead a collaborative research project, execute the planned research activities, and deliver millstones in a timely fashion;

· The candidate is expected to coordinate with a multidisciplinary team on a regular basis;

· The candidate will be the key personnel to perform the experiments, collect/analyze data, and write manuscripts independently;

· The candidate is expected to supervise undergraduate researchers or junior graduate students in the group.
