Description

The Alonso Lab (https: // bdi.unt.edu/ana-alonso) is looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to study the mode of action of Histoplasma, a project funded by NIH. Histoplasma capsulatum is a human fungal pathogen. It causes respiratory and systemic disease by invading and replicating within macrophages. This project will identify the host molecules consumed by Histoplasma capsulatum while it resides within macrophages, which can identify novel avenues for therapeutic options to treat histoplasmosis. The approaches that will be used to address this question are metabolomics and fluxomics (mass spectrometry analyses and mathematical modeling). This work is part of a larger collaborative project funded by the National Institutes of Health.

Minimum Qualifications

Doctorate in biology, biochemistry, microbiology or related field is required. Prior experience with metabolite extraction, separation, and quantification techniques, such as Gas Chromatography (GC-MS or GC-FID), High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Liquid Chromatography tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience in the field of metabolomics is preferred.

Prior experience in analyzing 13C-labeling by mass spectrometry is preferred.

Strong scientific writing and communication skills are highly desired, excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills too.
