It will be necessary in particular to implement the SU(N) symmetry in exact diagonalization (ED) and Density Matrix Renormalization Group (DMRG) in its Matrix Product States (MPS version) algorithms. The gain of performance involved by the use of the symmetries will allow us to analyse lattices of hundreds of spins in order to calculate some physical observables and to establish their behavior in the thermodynamical limit. The post-doctoral fellow will write the algorithms in standard informatic languages (C++ or matlab or python), before simulating the physical systems, analyzing the obtained data to get the physical properties of the spin lattice models. It is expected that the post-doctoral fellow publish one or several papers describing the numerical method that he/she created to study the system, analysing the data obtained from the numerics giving the physical conclusions on the nature of the observed phases (presence of long/short range order, gapless or gapped chain, type of criticality, presence of some topological order… ). He/She will do one or several talks to present his/her work in some conferences.

The post-doctoral fellow will use numerical methods to study theoretically SU(N) spin models in 1D and 2D lattices in the Mott insulating phases in the LPMMC Laboratory in Grenoble under the supervision of Pierre Nataf, the main investigator of the project.

He/She will work with the supervisor at Grenoble and potentially with external collaborators. The Laboratory at Grenoble is a mixed research unity (UMR) with a dozen of CNRS or University (from University Grenoble Alpes) permanent researchers, one computer engineer, two administrators, one part-time working calculation programmer and a dozen or post-doc fellows or PhD students. The main objective is the creation and the use of an original algorithm to calculate the energies and some observables of an SU(N) spin chain or 2D lattice.

Eligibility criteria

It is expected that the post-doc fellow has a PhD in theoretical physics in condensed matter/ cold atoms, that he/she knows how to write numerical codes and how to use them on calculation servers. He/She must know basic analysis of systems described by an Hamiltonian (perturbation theory, fermions, bosons, …). It can be a first or a second post-doc. He/She must be able to interact with one or several researchers to follow their suggestions, to share his/her results. He/She will be autonomous to make the project and he/she will able to communicate his/her results in french and in english, in spoken and written words.
