Description

The Physics Department, within the School of Electrical Engineering, Computing and Mathematical Sciences, is organised along its research strengths of Materials Science, Radio Astronomy, Theoretical Physics and Environmental Physics. Its mission is to provide a broad world-class undergraduate education in physics, with advanced courses and postgraduate studies being aligned with its research strengths.

Curtin University is a participant in the Australian Research Council (ARC) Training Centre for the Global Hydrogen Economy (GlobH2E) led by UNSW. The GlobH2E brings together 6 leading Universities with UNSW as the administrating node, 4 international research institutions and 15 companies to work collaboratively in the areas of chemical, safety and manufacturing engineering, materials science and theoretical modelling, social science and energy market analysis to develop new, cost-effective hydrogen technologies and new research-based engineering and business skills to facilitate and support the transformation of Australia's industry into a hydrogen powerhouse. Funding from the ARC Training Centre GlobH2E is available to appoint a Research Fellow at Curtin to work with John Curtin Distinguished Professor Craig Buckley and Associate Professor Mark Paskevicius in conjunction with researchers and Kotai Energy (Industry partner) and potentially with others within the training centre on the ‘hydrogen for export' within the hydrogen storage theme.

Following the recent grant success of the ARC Training Centre for the GlobH2E, an exciting opportunity exists for a highly skilled researcher to be employed as a Research Associate/Fellow to work on solid-state hydrogen storage materials for hydrogen export applications. You will require a broad materials science background, project management skills, and familiarity with materials characterisation and modelling techniques. A strong research background in electrochemistry techniques is also required.

This role may be offered at an ALA or ALB level, depending on experience. The appointment is for 3 years in the first instance with a firm possibility of an extension based on performance.

Ph.D. in either Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science or Engineering.

Demonstrated relevant subject/discipline knowledge and knowledge and experience in relevant research techniques.

Demonstrated competency in a range of qualitative and quantitative research tasks.

Emerging research track record/potential to conduct quality research and contribute productively to research teams under supervision.

Evidence of a strong record of research outputs/creative works in high quality refereed journals/outlets consistent with the discipline (ALB level).

Evidence of quality and impact of research outputs/creative works including journal ranking, citation indices, patents awarded, reputation and standing of publishing house or other outlets, independent review from distinguished scholars or critics, or equivalent esteem measures as appropriate to the discipline (ALB level).

Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to the development of a collegial and supportive working environment and the ability to interact with students and staff with cross cultural sensitivity (ALB level).

Demonstrated commitment to applying relevant and applicable policies, procedures, and legislation in the day-to-day performance of the functions of this position.
