The research objectives of the post include: a) the processing and interpretation of satellite and hyperspectral satellite data of different spatial and spectral resolution to map and monitor the coastal and shallow aquatic natural and cultural environment, b) use of geoinformatics on risk assessment analysis (e.g. natural hazards), c) the delivery of lectures in international seminars that will be organized by IMS-FORTH, d) the compilation of at least one article in peer review journal with the collaboration of the research team of the project, e) the writing of at least one (1) research proposal in collaboration with the research team of the project . Candidates need to have a strong stimulus and be able to collaborate and interact constructively within an international team with various disciplines

Eligibility criteria

PhD in geosciences, natural sciences, or computer science

Publications in peer review journals and/or international conferences (Each publication in peer review journal and conference proceedings will be multiplied by15 and 10 points respectively) Maximum Grade: 10x15+ 15x10 = 300 points

Experience in the digital image processing and interpretation of satellite and hyperspectral technologies for environmental and/or cultural applications (Each month in participation in research projects will be multiplied by 10 (Upper limit: 60 months) Maximum Grade: 60x10 = 600 points

Selection process

Please note that the call for proposals for a contract for the lease of this project is not competitive, while any option counterparty has the character of acceptance of a proposal rather than "hiring".

In case the original documents do not match the copies that have been submitted with the application, the applicant is dismissed from the application procedure.

Offer Requirements Skills/Qualifications

PhD in geosciences, natural sciences, or computer science.

Participation in a number of research projects of satellite remote sensing and GIS.

Publications in peer review journals and/or international conferences.

Experience in the digital image processing and interpretation of satellite and hyperspectral technologies for environmental and/or cultural applications.

Knowledge of GIS (e.g. ArcGIS, QGIS), processing of satellite imagery (e.g. Erdas, ENVI, Idrisi, Image Station Model Setup etc), and topographic mapping through GPS and post processing of GPS data.

Experience on Javascript or Python or R programming language in geoscience applications will be considered as an advantage.

Very good knowledge of English.
