This is an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to make a substantial contribution to a MRC funded multi-disciplinary research programme led by Professor Huiling Tan ( https: // www. mrcbndu.ox.ac.uk/groups/tan-group). The project aims to: 1. investigate the role of oscillatory electrophysiological brain activities in motor control, affective processing and decision making; 2. understand how abnormal interactions between brain cells cause symptoms in neurological and psychiatric disorders; 3. use invasive and non-invasive brain stimulation to probe the causal relationship between neural network dynamics and behaviour; 4. leverage these insights to pioneer closed-loop approaches to therapeutic brain stimulation for better treatment of neurological and psychiatric disorders.

We are one of the core programs in the MRC Brain Network Dynamics Unit, enjoying close collaboration with other research programmes in basic neuroscience, computational neuroscience and biomedical engineering. We work closely with neurologists, neurosurgeons, and patients undergoing Deep Brain Stimulation. The post holder will be based in the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences in Oxford, reporting to Prof Huiling Tan. The post holder provides guidance to junior members of the research group including research assistants, PhD students, and/or project volunteers.

The successful candidate will hold or be close to completing a relevant PhD/DPhil or equivalent in a quantitative discipline. They will also have experience with designing experiments with human participants and experience in the neuropathology of neuropsychiatric disorders. The ability to manage own research and associated activities is desirable.

This post is part time (60% FTE) and fixed term for 10 Months (with a latest end date of 31st December 2024).
