Job description

Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (HASS)

This UKRI funded, ful time post is available immediately, until the beginning of July 2025 (with the possibility of extension), to support the work of Professor Rebecca Helm in the Evidence Based Justice Lab.

The post

You will be part of a team working on an interdisciplinary project using functional magnetic resonance imaging to examine the neural mechanisms underlying biases in juror evidence evaluation. Imaging work will be conducted at the new Mireille Gillings Neuroimaging Centre in Exeter.

The post will include assisting with finalising the experimental design for the study, programming tasks to be completed in the MRI scanner, recruiting participants, greeting participants and explaining study procedure to them, and analysing fMRI data. The post will not involve operation of the scanner itself.

About you

The successful applicant will:

possess a relevant PhD (or nearing completion) or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge of fMRI work to complete the tasks detailed above

have knowledge and experience in fMRI research, in programming tasks for completion in the scanner, and in pre-processing and analysing fMRI data.

be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies
