About the Role

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant (PDRA) to work at the School of Biological and Behavioural Sciences (SBBS). The research group of Dr Simon Moore is recruiting a BBSRC-funded PDRA position for 31 months, focused on engineering cell-free systems to accelerate the study of antimicrobial resistance. This project is a collaboration with Professor J. Mark Sutton at UKHSA Porton Down.

About You

Candidates are required to demonstrate an evidence-based research track record, commensurate to respective career stage. This multidisciplinary project will have a major component on engineering peptides and proteins. A PhD (or imminent completion) in this area or complementary disciplines (i.e., chemistry), is essential, along with proven experimental and analytical skills. Evidence of efficient problem-solving capabilities, highly organized experiment planning, and experience with working in teams is desired. We do not expect candidates to have prior experience of cell-free protein synthesis, which will involve formal training in the Moore group.

The role will involve the day-to-day independent running of the research project, the preparation of manuscripts using high-quality data, giving oral presentations of results and assistance with the supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate members of the lab. As such, you will have the ability to communicate clearly (written and verbal), to organize and document your work efficiently and to deliver projects within an agreed timeframe. In addition, there will be a range of networking and travel opportunities.
