Postdoctoral Scholar/Researcher

Job Description

The Chemical Engineering Department at Auburn University is seeking applications for multiple postdoctoral scholar positions. The postdoctoral scholars will be co-advised by Professor Peter He and Professor Jin Wang. We have a new multi-year and multi-disciplinary research project funded by DOE that aimed at developing an intensified and energy-efficient cultivation, processing, and conversion technology for flue gas-derived algal biomass into aquafeed. The project team includes academic institutions, national lab and public and private companies. The postdoctoral scholars will work with researchers from all team members. Funding is available for two years, with a possibility of renewal for a third year. Hiring is contingent upon eligibility to work in the United States, but the University will consider applicants who require sponsorship for employment visa status.

Candidates must have a PhD in Chemical Engineering, Biosystems Engineering, Environmental Engineering or a related engineering field. Excellent candidates for these positions will have experience with two or more of the following:

• Microalgal or microbial biofilm cultivation, a.k.a., attached cultivation.

• Reactor design, fabrication, and process intensification.

• Algae cultivation, harvesting, drying, and processing.

Candidates are expected to have strong analytical, writing, and presentation skills. Candidates must be able to work in a collaborative environment and be interested in gaining expertise in life cycle assessment and techno-economic modeling.

Responsibilities

In addition to conducting advanced research in reactor design and fabrication, algal cultivation and harvesting, postdoctoral scholars will:

• Perform literature reviews and contribute to high-impact research publications.

• Present findings at academic conferences and to diverse audiences, including stakeholders and the general public.

• Mentor graduate and undergraduate students in related research projects.

• Develop skills in leadership, project management, and communication through structured mentorship and professional development opportunities.
