A senior research scientist position is available at DTU Food in the Division of Epidemiology and Microbial Genomics, the research group of Epidemiology and Risk Modeling. The activities of the research group include development of methods to quantify the associations between the occurrence of pathogens (including antimicrobial resistant bacteria) in the food chain and the risk of disease development in humans (e.g. approaches for source attribution, quantitative microbial risk assessment and risk-benefit assessment). Together with burden of disease studies these methods are strong tools for prioritising foodborne disease interventions.

Responsibilities and tasks 
The tasks of the position include research, public health consultancy and teaching within the fields of foodborne disease epidemiology. The main responsibility is to lead the institute’s development of models and tools to prioritise food safety interventions with particular focus on approaches for measuring the burden of foodborne diseases in humans, animals and the society.

The research will include planning and carrying out burden of disease, source attribution and risk assessment studies, which is to be done in collaboration with researchers at the institute, national and international research partners and with authorities and other relevant private or public institutions. The applicant is expected to be able to attract external grants to support research projects. Activities will include daily supervision of PhD students and master students. The applicant should also expect to be involved in national and international teaching activities carried out under the responsibility of the National Food Institute.

Scientifically-based advice to national and international authorities and organisations in food safety will also be a part of the job.

Qualifications

• Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding a position as Researcher or Postdoc.
• Didactic/pedagogic training

The successful applicant should have documented experience and qualifications with burden of disease methodology and/or quantitative source attribution, as well as microbiological risk modelling within the area of foodborne disease epidemiology. Experience with statistical analysis of large registry-based datasets is a requirement.
