Research Associate in Bioinformatics

The appointment will be full time on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be £33,353 – £36,161 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

The Bioinformatics Group in the Department of Computer Science invites applications for a postdoctoral research associate in the area of protein function prediction from sequence. The project is a collaboration with Elsevier B.V., under the auspices of the UCL Big Data Institute. The work will involve developing methods for predicting protein function and protein-protein interactions, which can exploit information stored in Elsevier’s database of biological relationships, gleaned from literature sources.

This post is funded until the end of October 2017 in the first instance.

Applicants should have (or very soon expect to have) a relevant PhD (e.g. in bioinformatics) and one or more papers accepted or published in a refereed journal. Experience of applying machine learning tools to biological data and good software development skills are essential. Some familiarity with text mining methods would be an advantage. Fluency in both written and spoken English, along with a track record of getting papers accepted for publication in refereed journals is essential.

Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at research assistant Grade 6B (salary £29,193 – £30,783 per annum) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.
