A postdoctoral Research Associate position is available for an outstanding and ambitious person to undertake research in the field of multiscale modelling of graphene materials particularly in the development and test of novel coarse-grained and MonteCarlo algorithms.
This project is part of an EPSRC funded project in collaboration with the School of Physics, Chemistry and Electric Engineering of the University of Manchester focused on the large scale production of graphene derivatives for separation and filtration applications.
You should have, or be working towards, a PhD or equivalent in chemical engineering, chemistry or physics. Extensive expertise in molecular simulation (Molecular Dynamics and/or Gran Canonical MonteCarlo) and programming are essential. You will work closely together with the other partners in this project (including PhD students) and thus must have the ability to communicate well with experimentalists involved in the characterisation and production of the material. Moreover you will be required to report scientific/technical results to the project consortium, both in the form of written reports and oral presentations. You will be expected to be capable of working under your own initiative and to write academic papers suitable for publication in high-impact journals
The theory and simulation group in the School of Chemical Engineering & Analytical Science has seven full-time academic staff and over 20 PhD students and research associates. Group members investigate a wide range of interdisciplinary topics, ranging from the properties of cell membranes to the flow of fluids in oil reservoirs, and there is a depth of expertise in computer simulation and soft matter theory that can support this project. The group also has made a significant investment into the University’s shared computer facility, thereby providing the computer power needed to perform the required research
