We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated post-doctoral fellow in soil science at the Centre for Environmental and Climate Research, Lund University. The project will focus on characterizing soil organic matter (SOM) from several natural or manipulated gradients, and isolating SOMcomponents via novel extraction methods. The SOM characterization will be accomplished by means of novel vibration spectroscopy and synchrotron-based methods. In a second phase of the project the different SOM and the corresponding components will be subjected to microbial degradation and the influence of environmental conditions will be investigate. This will be conducted in close collaboration with microbial ecologists, geochemists and system biologists in the research team. The postdoctoral funding is granted for a period of two years.
You will be a member of Professors Anders Tunlid´s and Per Persson´s groups and be part of the larger multidisciplinary research program “Molecular Interactions Controlling soil Carbon Sequestration – MICCS”. The overall goal of this program is to gain a mechanistic understanding of the interactions between soil organic matter (SOM), the activity of decomposing microorganisms and the physicochemical environment that control the stability of SOM. TheMICCS research environment consists of a strong team of scientists, research technicians, post docs and PhD students studying these interactions at different complexity and spatial scales – from defined model systems to field sites – using a cutting-edge technology ranging from spectroscopic analysis to transcriptome profiling, isotope labelling, and systems biology methods. We are presently recruiting 4 postdoctoral fellows and 6 PhD students to the research program.
