Scholarship Description: The PhD project will explore the mineralogy and geochemistry of pegmatites of the Permian Larvik Plutonic Complex (LPC). The main objectives are to investigate the mobility of immobile elements and the effect on isotope systems when in situ alteration occurs, which will be carried out on various minerals. In addition, some of the pegmatites in the LPC are rich in rare element minerals whereas others mostly host rare metals in minerals like zircon. Often both types of pegmatites occur at the same locality, but the origin of the two types is unknown. Finally, the project will combine the mineralogy, chemistry and isotope characteristics to explore the origin of the fluids forming and altering the pegmatites throughout the LPC.
Number of award(s): One doctoral research fellowship is available.
