In addition, some of the pegmatites in the LPC are rich in rare element minerals whereas others mostly host rare metals in minerals like zircon. Often both types of pegmatites occur at the same locality, but the origin of the two types is unknown. Finally, the project will combine the mineralogy, chemistry and isotope characteristics to explore the origin of the fluids forming and altering the pegmatites throughout the LPC.
