Molecular Parasitology: MRC funded postdoctoral research position

Targeted investigation of the molecular composition and function of the apical complex in Toxoplasma.

Skill sets: Molecular biology, cell biology, tissue culture, microscopy.

A position is available for a post-doctoral research worker to apply state-of-the-art technologies to investigate the molecular composition and function of the apical complex in Toxoplasma gondii. Protein discovery, tagging, knockdown and knockout strategies will be employed to examine the molecular behaviour and mechanisms associated with the function of this iconic feature of apicomplexan parasites. The outcomes of this project will contribute to better understanding of the apical complex's significance to invasion, cell replication, and other aspects of apicomplexan biology.

The position will be based in the Department of Biochemistry, Tennis Court Road at the University of Cambridge (central Cambridge) in the laboratory of Dr Ross Waller.

Candidates should have a PhD in cell and molecular biology, preferably with experience in parasitology and a track record of publishing in high quality journals. Ability to work both as part of a team, and independently, coupled with excellent communication, organizational and problem solving skills are required.

The host laboratory provides cell culture, molecular biology, and wide-field fluorescence microscopy facilities, and provides access to super-resolution and electron microscopy, as well as advanced proteomics. The project is supported by a technician.

The position is available from 1st March 2015, and is funded for 3 years in the first instance.
