Post-doctoral Research Scientist - Long Noncoding RNAs in Drosophila : Oxford, United Kingdom

Fixed term post on Grade 7: £29,837 to £36,661, with a discretionary range to £40,046 p.a.

MRC Functional Genomics Unit at the University of Oxford

We are seeking an ambitious and self-motivated scientist interested in using theCRISPR/Cas9 system (http://oxfcrispr.org) which has already been developed in-house (Cell Rep. 2013 4:220-8) to generate long noncoding RNA mutants in the Drosophila fruitfly. The post-holder will analyse newly generated long ncRNA mutants, and identify the consequences of these mutations in vitro and in vivo.

This post, available immediately, is supported in the first instance for 1 year by a prestigious Advanced Grant awarded to Prof Ponting by the European Research Council. Working under the direction of Dr Ji-Long Liu, you will be supported by a research assistant and will liaise with other post-doctoral staff studying ncRNAs in mammals and birds or using computational genomics to identify and analyze long ncRNA sequences. A strong background in molecular biology is essential together with experience in Drosophila genetics, developmental biology, and the use of sequence analysis tools in biological research. Excellent organisational and communication skills will be required, together with the ability to work well within a team.

You will work in the MRC Functional Genomics Unit within the Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics (www.dpag.ox.ac.uk) at the University of Oxford. The Unit is a world-renowned centre for comparative genomics and research into neurological disorders. We offer excellent computational and laboratory facilities in the Henry Wellcome Building of Gene Function.
