Postdoctoral Fellow – Cancer Genetics
Salary range: £30202 to £37860 dependent on experience
Fixed-term 18 months contract renewable up to 2.5 years.
This may be extended if funding becomes available.

We are looking for self-motivated and high potential scientists to join our effort to study a new type of pluripotent stem cells.

The candidates are expected to perform pluripotent stem cell related experiments, including cell culture, cell differentiation, routine molecular biology. The candidates are also expected to develop skills in RNA-seq and ChIP-seq for stem cell characterization. A strong publication record on stem cells is required.

We have recently established cultures of expanded potential stem cells that have distinct properties compared to standard mouse and human ES cells. The programme involves further investigating these stem cells, and exploring their applications in studying development and cancer.

Essential Skills
• PhD in stem cells, genomics, genetics, molecular biology, cancer biology
• Experience of working on embryonic stem cells
• Experience of molecular cloning and making sophisticated constructs
• Experience of analyzing genomic data

Ideal Skills
• Experience of working with human pluripotent stem cells
• Bioinformatics skills
• Strong publication record

Postdoctoral Fellows are typically in their first or second postdoctoral position as part of a period of early career research training.

Life at the Sanger
The Genome Campus is a 100-acre estate south of Cambridge in the grounds of Hinxton Hall. Nestled in the quiet countryside of these landscaped gardens, are two world-class research facilities: the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute and the European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI). The site has become the British hub of biomedical science. The Campus is also home to the Wellcome Trust Advanced Courses and Scientific Conferences programme and the Wellcome Trust Conference Centre.
