Postdoctoral Statistical Epidemiologist - Malaria Atlas Project

Grade 7: £29,837 - £36,661 with a discretionary range to £40,046 p.a.

The Postdoctoral Statistical Epidemiologist - Malaria Atlas Project will be a member of a large research group undertaking statistical and mechanistic modelling and interpretation of malariometric data, and will be responsible for a discrete area within the wider research programme. This is a 2 year fixed-term post based at the Department of Zoology, University of Oxford.

The main responsibilities and duties are helping to shape the research group’s plans and the writing group-funding applications for new research projects; contributing to scientific decision-making processes within the project; undertaking a review of modelling approaches; using cutting edge approaches to lead the development of key components of a space-time modelling infrastructure to describe and investigate patterns of changing malaria transmission; to develop the software infrastructure and documentation required to support appropriate computational modelling; publish and present research findings, carry out collaborative projects including travel to meet colleagues.

Candidates must have a first or upper second class Bachelor degree and a PhD in mathematics, statistics, epidemiology or equivalent quantitative discipline, as well as expertise in statistical modelling, demonstrable competence in computer programming for statistical modelling, a proven ability to meet defined research milestones on time, a competitive publication record for career stage and evidence of project planning, organisational and communication skills.

The interview will include a 30 min programming skills test. The candidate will join a large and dynamic group under the supervision of Dr Peter Gething. Funding is available to support training, collaborative visits and conference attendance.
