Postdoctoral Research Associate in Plant GABA Receptor Biology (Rf: 493996) : Adelaide, Australia

This postdoctoral position will further explore our recent discovery that plants contain anion channels that are regulated by GABA. In plants, GABAconcentration increases rapidly during stress and can modify plant growth. Our finding identifies a mechanism by which this increase in GABA concentration can act as an endogenous plant signal. This position will investigate the pharmacology of plant GABA receptors and their physiological roles, in particular their role in controlling pollen tube growth and plant yield.

The newly appointed postdoctoral researcher will be embedded within the Plant Transport and Signalling group of the ARC Centre of Excellence in Plant Energy Biology, in the School of Agriculture Food and Wine at the University of Adelaide.

The School of Agriculture, Food and Wine is one of four schools in the Faculty of Sciences. The school is located at the University's Waite campus, the pre-eminent plant and agricultural science research site in the Southern Hemisphere. A number of academic courses are taught through the school in areas including: agriculture, viticulture and oenology, food and nutrition science, and plant biotechnology. The school represents a world-class concentration of scientific researchers, educators and infrastructure.

Requirements: To be successful you should have a PhD in Plant Sciences, neuroscience, molecular biosciences or pharmacology; Demonstrated skills in gene cloning and transformation; Experience of protein functional characterisation, including electrophysiological techniques and heterologous expression systems and in genotyping and transcriptomics; Experience conducting research independently within a multi-disciplinary team; Analytical, problem solving and communication skills and an ability to publish in International peer-reviewed journals.
