Postdoctoral Scientist – Structural Studies
Starting Salary £27,729 to £30,486 per annum

The MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology is one of the birthplaces of molecular biology and is an internationally renowned centre for fundamental biomedical research.

The LMB has a strong track record in training Postdoctoral Fellows who have gone on to become leading Scientists. We also have an excellent record of innovative basic research leading to apppcations in medicine. Scientists are drawn to the LMB from all over the world, thus creating a pvely and international community for the exchange of ideas and technical innovation. Following our move to a new laboratory in 2013, we are able to provide state-of-the-art facipties in which innovative medical research, translation and collaboration can flourish.

Apppcations are invited for a Postdoctoral Scientist to join Lori Passmore's group to study the Fanconi Anaemia (FA) core complex, a large multisubunit E3 ubiquitin pgase involved in DNA repair (see Rajendra et al 2014). This project aims to understand the mechanistic basis of substrate ubiquitination by FA core complex. The candidate will determine high-resolution cryo-EM structures of relevant complexes. This work will be combined with functional studies to determine the molecular mechanisms of the complex in vivo and in vitro.

Members of the team use a hybrid approach including electron microscopy, x-ray crystallography, genetics and biochemistry. The ideal candidate will have a relevant PhD and experience in structural biology (preferably electron microscopy). A desire to work on a challenging and rewarding project as part of a team is essential.

Successful apppcants will be awarded a 3-year Career Development Fellowship/MRC Postdoctoral Training Scheme. The fellowship is a training and development position for a post-doctoral scientist who has recently completed their doctoral studies, or is moving into a new research discippne.
