Job Description

Immediate postdoctoral opportunity available to study the role of dysregulated Hedgehog signaling in colon cancers and human solid tumors mediated via constitutive activation of GLI. The research program in colon cancer focuses on: 1) constitutive GLI activation as a nodal point of convergence for oncogenic signaling pathways (HH-GLI, KRAS-GLI), and a critical therapeutic target in cancers; 2) mechanisms of GLI-dependent transcriptional inhibition, DNA damage, cell death; 3) relationship between formation of RNA:DNA hybrids, R-loops, transcriptional inhibition and inhibition of early DNA replication; 4) drug discovery for small molecule GLI inhibitors with specific binding and mechanistic properties. Successful candidates should possess a PhD degree in molecular biology, cell biology or relevant scientific discipline with experience in cancer related research, molecular and cell biology. General Summary:
This position serves as a research trainee for the purpose of enhancing and developing research competencies. In this appointment, the postdoctoral researcher will participate in planning, designing and conducting highly technical and complex research projects under the supervision of a Principal Investigator to include analyzing research data, providing interpretations, contributing to the development of research documentation for publications, grant applications, and/or providing technical reports, papers and/or records.

Key Responsibilities:
• Serves as a research trainee for the purpose of enhancing and developing research competencies.
• Participates in planning, designing and conducting highly technical and complex research projects under the direction of a supervisor. May or may not work independently.

Position Specific:
• Study the role of dysregulated Hedgehog signaling in colon cancers and human solid tumors mediated via constitutive activation of GLI
• Support the research program in colon cancer that focuses on: 1) constitutive GLI activation as a nodal point of convergence for oncogenic signaling pathways (HH-GLI, KRAS-GLI), and a critical therapeutic target in cancers; 2) mechanisms of GLI- dependent transcriptional inhibition, DNA damage, cell death; 3) relationship between formation of RNA:DNA hybrids, R-loops, transcriptional inhibition and inhibition of early DNA replication; 4) drug discovery for small molecule GLI inhibitors with specific binding and mechanistic properties.
• Identifies, researches, compiles and evaluates data sources, background information and/or technology related to the area of specialization
• Develop approaches to study transcriptional regulation, cellular responses to DNA damaging agents
• Contribute to grant application & publications derived from project data
• Operates and maintains scientific equipment
• Maintains external awareness of scientific discipline through familiarity with current scientific literature
• Observes appropriate safety and study requirements by reading, understanding and following Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) requirements and study protocols

Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:
• PhD in molecular biology, cell biology or relevant scientific discipline
• Experience in cancer related research
• Strong background in molecular and cell biology, biochemistry and human tissue culture techniques
• Keen interest in understanding fundamental cancer biology as well as cancer drug discovery.
• Research experience in the field of specialization with advanced knowledge of equipment, procedures and methods of analysis
• Proven ability to work in a collaborative team environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Competency in Microsoft Office Suites Products and other relevant software
• Knowledge of use of protective equipment and safety protocol related to handling hazardous materials
• Ability to observe appropriate safety and study requirements by reading, understanding, and following Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) requirements, and study protocols as applicable

• Experience with molecular / cell biology, cancer biology, pharmacologic, biochemical or cellular assays
