Postdoctoral Research Associate in Synthetic Biology : Edinburgh, United Kingdom

We are seeking a Post-doctoral Research Associate to work in the Institute of Cell Biology at the University of Edinburgh. This post offers a great opportunity for a highly motivated and organized individual to work on an exciting synthetic biology project to expand research expertise and develop his/her individual career. The post will involve research on the design and construction of synthetic gene regulatory circuits for advanced biological information processing, computing and sensing in bacterial cells.

You should have a PhD (or will shortly obtain a PhD) in microbiology, molecular biology, biological engineering or other closely related field. You will have proven laboratory experience in microbiological, molecular biology and DNA cloning and gene expression assay techniques. Proven laboratory based research experience related to gene regulation control and synthetic biology would be a distinct advantage. You will perform a laboratory-based research project and as part of this project you will design and test customized gene circuits within Escherichia coli. You should be highly motivated and organized to plan and prioritize your own research with appropriate guidance. You will also provide technical expertise to the group and share responsibility for ordering lab supplies.

You will work under the supervision of Dr Baojun Wang based in the Multidisciplinary Centre for Synthetic and Systems Biology (SynthSys) which has worldwide reputation and state-of-the-art facilities for molecular and cellular analysis.
