The collaborative research project between Stanford University (Drs. Lei Xing and Hao Peng) and Hokkaido University (Drs. Shirato and Umegaki) is focused on image guided radiation therapy. Research experience in medical imaging and radiation therapy is required. The candidate will primarily work in the department of radiation medicine, Hokkaido University Graduate School of Medicine. The candidate(s) are expected to work on one of the following two projects: 1) the use of duel-energy CT for dose/range verification in proton therapy; and 2) the use of Positron Emission Tomography (PET) for dose/range verification in proton therapy.

Qualifications: Candidates must have a Ph.D. in physics, engineering, computer science or a related field. Candidates must be able to communicate in English, and the ability to communicate in Japanese is preferred.
1) Research experience with medical imaging systems (CT/PET/MRI);
2) Expertise in one of the following three areas (radiation physics/detection, medical image reconstruction and Monte-Carlo simulation);
3) Proven ability to use Monte Carlo simulation packages (GEANT4/GATE/GAMOS, etc);
4) Strong computer programming skills in C++ and MATLAB languages;
5) Previous experience in proton therapy and dose calculation algorithms will rank the candidate among the top of the list.
