Postdoctoral position in cellular and organismal aging
Job Description
The Scheibye-Knudsen lab is offering a postdoctoral position to a highly motivated individual that will investigate how genome instability might influence metabolism and neuronal health. Using in silico, in vitro and in vivo approaches we try to understand the interplay between cellular and organismal metabolism, and what we can do to intervene in the aging process. The position also carries an obligation to conduct some undergraduate teaching and associated examinations. The position is part of a new transatlantic collaboration between the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark and the National Institute on Aging, NIH – USA. The place of employment will be at the University of Copenhagen while the successful candidate must be prepared to spend part of his/her employment period at the NIH.
The Department
The Scheibye-Knudsen lab is part of The Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine which focuses on basic cellular and molecular biological processes, their regulation and their significance for cell function, interaction and organization in tissues. The Department offers comprehensive undergraduate and graduate teaching programs spanning cell biology, genetics and basic human biology, including chemistry, biochemistry, physiology, as well as anatomy. Qualifications:
The candidate must hold a PhD, MD or PhD/MD and should have proven skills in mouse handling and the generation and maintenance of primary cell cultures. Knowledge of, and interest in, cellular and organismal aging and metabolic regulation is necessary. Further, the candidate should show outstanding motivation, a passion for science and a wish to become a leader in the field.
Terms of salary and employment:
The terms of employment are set according to the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations or other relevant professional organization. Successful applicants will receive a generous salary from the University of Copenhagen as well as a monthly contribution of 17.1% of the salary paid into a pension fund. The successful candidate should expect to spend the first 6 month of his/her employment period at the National Institute on Aging, NIH in USA and to start working at University of Copenhagen in Denmark in the summer or fall 2016. The exact period will be agreed upon at the time of employment.The position is thereby contingent upon approval from both the University of Copenhagen and the National Institute on Aging.
