Research Scientist or Postdoctoral Associate, Neurobiology of Homeostasis : San Francisco, CA, United States

A position is available in the Knight lab at UCSF to investigate the neural circuitry in the mouse brain that controls feeding and other innate behaviors. This position could be at either the Postdoctoral Associate or Research Specialist level, depending on the candidate. We are particularly interested in recruiting individuals with a strong background in electrophysiology, either in vitro or in vivo, to work with us to investigate the neural coding of motivated behaviors.

About the Knight Lab: 

The Knight lab is located at the Mission Bay campus of UCSF in downtown San Francisco. The lab uses an array of state-of-the-art optical, genetic, and electrophysiologic approaches to investigate how the brain senses the needs of the body and then generates appropriate behavioral responses. See Chen Y, Cell, 2015 for a recent example of our work. This position represents an opportunity to work side-by-side with talented graduate students, postdocs, and specialists in a dynamic and stimulating research environment atUCSF.

Qualifications: 

We are looking for highly motivated individuals whose background or perspective will add something to the approaches already established in the lab. We are particularly interested in recruiting systems neuroscientists who are interested in combining electrophysiology with molecular and optical techniques in order to investigate the circuit-level basis for behavior. However we are open to applicants with other backgrounds who could bring something interesting to the group. We have considerable flexibility for the right candidate and can hire at either traditional postdoctoral or more permanent staff scientist levels. We expect that most candidates will have a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline, but we will also consider individuals without a doctorate who have unique or extensive hands-on research experience.
