The School of Computer Science at Reykjavik University is looking for Postdoctoral Fellows interested in virtual reality research under the supervision of Dr. Hannes Högni Vilhjálmsson in the Center for Analysis and Design of Intelligent Agents (CADIA), an interdisciplinary research center that bridges computer science, engineering and psychology.

The research project “Cities that Sustain Us: Using Virtual Reality to Test the Restorative Potential of Future Urban Environments” is a collaboration with the City of Reykjavik and Uppsala University. The aim of the project is to understand how to design built urban environments that support psychological restoration, and promote health and well-being. A series of human subject experiments will be conducted, both in the field and in a virtual reality laboratory. Along with the studies, the project involves creating advanced software, based on Unity 3D, for rapidly configuring different urban environments, running VR simulations and collecting data. The candidate would be a member of CADIA’s Socially Expressive Computing Group, and would be expected to participate in its general Virtual Reykjavik effort as well.

Qualifications:
A PhD in Computer Science, engineering, psychology or a related field, from a leading institution with a strong publication record, and sound understanding of the fundamentals of virtual reality and experiments with human subjects. Topics of particular interest include virtual cities, urban planning simulations, environmental psychology, VR architectural walk-throughs, VR therapy and VR interface technologies.

Candidates should be highly motivated having recently obtained a PhD degree and showing strong research potential. The successful applicant will work in our facilities in Reykjavik, Iceland. The expected start date of the position is August 2014 with a minimum appointment of two years, and the possibility of renewal for another year.
