Biostatistician / bioinformatician (post-doc) : Torino, Italy

The Human Genetics Foundation (HuGeF) is seeking a post-doc biostatistician for a two-year contract of collaboration on a project focusing on the analysis of genomic and epigenomic data from epidemiological studies on cancer.

The project is led by HuGeF's group of “Molecular and Genetic Epidemiology” coordinated by Prof. Paolo Vineis and is titled “Bioinformatic and statistical analysis of genomic and epigenomic data from epidemiological studies on cancer”. The project involves the statistical and bioinformatic analysis of large datasets including data from genome-wide and methylome-wide association studies obtained from epidemiological studies on breast, bowel and lung cancer.

The selected candidate will be offered a two-year contract of collaboration (“Contratto di Lavoro a Progetto” as per art. 61-69 of “D.lgs.” September 10 2003, n. 276, as modified by law 92/2012) of a total, pre-tax annual value ranging from 25.000 to 35.000 euros including on-costs.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

Qualifications/Education or Training Required

• PhD in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Computer Science or in a related discipline.

• At least 2 years of documented experience in the statistical or bioinformatic analysis of biomedical data. This may include work performed during the PhD.

• Documented experience of contributing to writing scientific papers for publication (i.e. at least two papers published in peer-reviewed journals).

• Good knowledge of statistical packages such as R, STATA, or SAS

• Deep knowledge of algebraic/Bayesian statistics and its application to epidemiology, genetics, genomics, epigenetics, or epigenomics

Job/Work skills

• Demonstrated personal commitment to, and achievement in, scholarly research
and communication of that achievement to others.

• Ability to conceive and formulate relevant research hypotheses and translate these into carefully planned data analyses.

• Well-developed analytical and problem solving skills.

• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines, while being flexible.

• Good written and verbal communication skills in English


Interpersonal Skills required

• Ability to coordinate with other researchers in the conduct of research projects.
