Postdoctoral Fellow : Houston, TX, United States

The laboratory of Dr. Mingshan Xue in the Department of Neuroscience at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) and the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute (NRI) at Texas Children's Hospital is seeking applicants for a postdoctoral fellow position. The newly established laboratory is part of the Neuroscience community at BCM and NRI that strives to understand the fundamental principles of the nervous system and the pathogenesis of neurological diseases with the ultimate goal of developing treatments.

Together with a multi-disciplinary team the postdoctoral fellow will work on research projects to study neocortical circuit function and development in health and disease. The projects will involve generation of molecular and genetic tools for circuit analysis, structural and functional analyses of neural circuits at the synaptic level using imaging and physiological approaches (in vivo two-photon imaging, in vivo physiology, slice physiology, and optogenetics), generation of mouse models of human diseases (childhood epilepsy and autism spectrum disorder), and characterization of mouse models using biochemical, physiological and behavioral approaches. The postdoctoral fellow will be encouraged to further develop his/her independent research program within the scope of neocortical circuit function and development.

Preferred applicants should have a strong research record in one or more of the following areas: molecular genetics, cell biology, electrophysiology, and imaging. Applicants with a background in math, physics, engineering, or computer science are also encouraged to apply.
