The Institute of Biological Environmental and Rural Sciences (IBERS) is seeking to recruit an engineer to work in a new bio-refining facility that will be located on the Gogerddan campus at Aberystwyth University. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing expert support for the design, technical development and optimisation of the BEACON intermediate-scale equipment which includes mechanical feedstock processing equipment, larger-scale fermentation and thermochemical conversion facilities, and other fractionation and bio-refining process equipment. In addition the post holder will be involved in developing new pilot-scale processes and equipment. These activities will integrate across a series of sub-projects within BEACON and will involve working on a number of different biological and thermal conversion routes to produce biofuels, platform chemicals and higher value products. Many of the pre-processing, conversion, separation and purification facilities brought together in the BEACON facility need to be combined in new ways in order to develop and optimise the bio-refining process which presents both an exciting opportunity and engineering challenge for the post-holder.
