Post-Doctoral Associate

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position studying doubly-diffusive (fingering) convection with Professor Francesco Paparella at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD). The appointment will be for one year with potential for further two-years renewal, starting no later than Spring 2018.

The successful candidate will be in charge of running and analyzing direct numerical simulations of fingering convection, with special emphasis to its Lagrangian facets, and will collaborate with Professor Paparella in developing reduced models and flux parameterizations. The post-doc will have direct access to NYUAD’s high performance computing facility (the Dalma cluster). Funds are also available for travel to conferences and collaborative endeavors.

Applicants must hold a PhD in applied mathematics, ocean/atmospheric sciences or related fields. The successful applicant will have significant experience in fluid dynamics, particularly on convective processes, and provable skills in running computational fluid dynamics codes and analyzing their results. Coding skills in Python, C or Fortran would be a plus.
