Postdoctoral position in the Department of Chemistry at Yale University

We seek a highly motivated, independent candidate to contribute to our efforts to synthesize novel natural product-derived DNA damaging agents and study their interactions with DNA. This is a unique, interdisciplinary position that will provide the candidate with a broad exposure to organic synthesis, small molecule-DNAinteractions, and preclinical studies.

Candidates with experience in organic synthesis or the study of DNA-small molecule interactions will be considered.

Primary responsibilities will involve the study of small molecule–DNA interactions by biophysical methods (fluorescence intercalator displacement assays, melting point assays, etc.), NMR spectroscopy, and/or crystallography. These will be complemented by organic synthesis efforts to prepare improved agents with higher potency and cleavage activity. In collaboration with other laboratories, we conduct preclinical studies of our best compounds, and the successful candidate will be part of this team.

A PhD in organic chemistry (or a related field) and a track record of success (as evidenced by first author publications in high profile journals) are required.

Experience in the study of small molecule–oligonucleotide interactions by NMR or crystallography is highly desirable. Competence in basic microbiology techniques is desirable.

The initial appointment will be for one year with the opportunity to renew, subject to approval. Salaries are tied to the NIH payscale and are commensurate with postgraduate experience.
