Job Summary

A postdoctoral fellow position is open in the Ischiropoulos laboratory in the Department of Pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). The project will use state-of-the-art, biochemical, molecular and cell biology approaches to investigate inherited metabolic disorders of fatty acid oxidation and to test novel therapeutics in cell and mouse models. The project provides an excellent training opportunity in metabolism, metabolic processes, and development of therapeutics. The postdoctoral fellow will also have ample opportunities to collaborate with internationally recognized scientists at CHOP and the University of Pennsylvania. The applicant should have a Ph.D. degree in biological sciences, such as biochemistry, pharmacology, molecular biology, and cell biology etc. The candidate should be proficient in mammalian cell culture and modern biochemical, molecular and cell biology protocols. Experience with metabolic pathways, hiPSC and cells in culture are preferred. An established track record (as evidenced by publications in peer-viewed journals) in relevant field is required. Ability to work independently, a strong work ethic and problem solving/critical thinking skills are critical. CHOP postdoctoral fellows receive mentored training in a rich scientific environment that includes both CHOP and University of Pennsylvania research communities. CHOP is an interdisciplinary institution dedicated to conducting basic, clinical and translational research with a particular focus on conditions that affect children.

Job Responsibilities

Conduct independent scholarly research and develop new methods and protocols

Participate in project planning, recording and evaluation of data

Acquire technical, lab management and grant writing skills

Participate in seminars, lectures, poster sessions and presentation at national meetings

Supervise junior lab members

Assist with other research projects

Required Education and Experience

A terminal degree PhD, MD, DVM, etc.

According to the CMS (Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services) a copy of diploma or transcript is required as proof of academic achievement for all non-laboratory personnel performing non-waived POC testing

All CHOP employees who work in a patient building or who provide patient care are required to receive an annual influenza vaccine unless they are granted a medical or religious exemption.
