The Institute of Physiology of the Christian-Albrechts University of Kiel, Germany invites applications for

1 PostDoc Position.

The post will initially run for 3 years. Contracted hours are currently at 38,7 hours/week. The salary is based on the German federal public service scale (E 13 TV-L). The incumbent is expected to teach 4 hrs per week.

We are looking for a highly qualified and motivated postdoctoral fellow to conduct cutting edge interdisciplinary research in neuroscience. Eligible candidates must hold an outstanding university degree (MA, MSc or equivalent) plus PhD (or equivalent) in medical, biological, chemical or physical sciences. Good experience in molecular biology is essential, experience in neuroscience (e.g. design and use of viral vectors, rodent behavior, anatomy or physiology) is desirable.

Using molecular/viral techniques you will investigate how subtypes of neurons in the hippocampus and associated brain areas contribute to cognitive functions such as learning and memory and emotions such as fear and anxiety. We have developed techniques to selectively modulate the activity and output of specific interneuron types in a circuit-specific manner and are thus able to investigate their role in neuronal circuit function and behavior. You would develop new molecular/viral tools and apply them to the functional dissection of neuronal circuits in cortical brain regions. This position permits the development of independent research ideas and further qualifications.
