Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Vascular Biology
The Laboratory of Dr Francesca Seta within Boston University School of Medicine, Vascular Biology Section is seeking to fill a Postdoctoral Research Scientist position in the area of vascular biology.
Dr Seta’s laboratory investigates the basic mechanisms of arterial stiffening and aortic aneurysms/dissections, with an emphasis on the biology of the vascular smooth muscle. The successful applicant will develop an NHLBI-funded project to examine the role of a newly identified transcription factor in the regulation of vascular smooth muscle contractile phenotype and arterial function. Current studies are also examining potential therapeutic targets for aortic aneurysms/dissection. The laboratory employs state-of-the art approaches such as high-resolution ultrasound echocardiography, radiotelemetry, high-fidelity pressure catheters and pressurized myography to assess vascular function in vivo and ex vivo. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to learn vascular surgical and imaging skills, if desired.
Laboratory personnel have access to state-of-the-art research instrumentation through the Boston University Analytical, Metabolic, Imaging, Flow Cytometry and Microarray Cores (http://www.bumc.bu.edu/busm/research/cores/). The Vascular Biology Section is part of the Department of Medicine and the Whitaker Cardiovascular Institute (https://www.bumc.bu.edu/busm-wci/), a world leading institution in the field of cardiovascular research with an highly interdisciplinary and collaborative environment and close interaction between clinicians and basic scientists.
Requirements and Qualifications:
PhD or MD degree in biological or biomedical sciences, with at least 1 first-author original research publication in a leading peer-reviewed journal.
Expertise in vascular biology, molecular biology (qRT-PCR, Western Blotting, cloning, adenovirus production, ChIP assay, immunoprecipitation, immunohistochemistry), epigenetics/DNA methylation/ChIP-Seq/RNA-Seq/lncRNA, immunology/flow cytometry, is highly desirable.
The ideal candidate has previous training and extensive working experience in one or more of the following areas: (1) animal husbandry and handling; (2) mechanistic studies in animal models of obesity/metabolic syndrome, hypertension and/or aortic aneurysm/dissection; (3) proficiency with vascular smooth muscle cells and vessel dissection; (4) vascular surgery and echocardiography; (5) epigenetic analysis and transcriptional regulation; (6) immunology/flow cytometry.
Good communication skills, strong motivation, high level of integrity and ethical standard, respect for laboratory members, ability to advance a project productively and work independently are required.
Competitive salary will be commensurate with relevant experience and based on NIH guidelines (https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-16-134.html). Eligible Postdoctoral Research Scientists qualify for Boston University-based benefits including pension plan, health and life insurance, and tuition discount. Opportunity for professional development is offered through the Office of Professional Development and Postdoctoral Affairs. Opportunity to apply to NIH-funded (T32) Multi-disciplinary Training Program in Cardiovascular Disease through the Whitaker Cardiovascular Institute to individuals with American citizenship or permanent residency.
Interested candidates should submit a curriculum vitae and contact details of 3 references to Dr Francesca Seta at setaf@bu.edu. Applications will be considered until the position is filled. Boston University is an equal opportunity employer: minorities, women, veterans and individuals with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
