One postdoctoral position (3 years) is available within the area of leukemia research in the Department of Immunology at Oslo University Hospital (click here for information). The post doc will work in a highly dynamic and stimulating environment at Oslo University Hospital, within the Department of Immunology and the newly established K.G. Jebsen Centre for B cell Malignancies (click here for information). The postdoc will be part of a research team that studies blood cell malignancies with a wide variety of models and experimental approaches, and will work on a project investigating molecular mechanisms of tumor suppression and oncogenic activated pathways in leukemia, with a combination of experimental laboratory work and in silico bioinformatics analysis of transcriptome data.
To apply, please provide the following:
• Application letter (include: statement of motivation for this position, career goals, and describe how you qualify for this position)
• CV summarizing all relevant experience
• List of scientific publications: Please list all publications, but highlight selected publication(s) (max five) considered most relevant, and include a brief statement of your contribution to this/these paper(s). Note: Applicants should not attach the publications themselves.
• Abstract from Ph.D. thesis (or describe Ph.D. work in abstract form of approx. half page )
• Copies of educational certificates. Foreign applicants are advised to attach an explanation of their University's grading system.
• Name and contact info of 2-4 references, (include brief information of relation)
Only electronic applications through Webcruiter will be considered.
Job description
The project will involve work with human cells in vitro (including patient-derived samples), in vivo models (e.g. xenografting and in vivo testing of pharmacological or biologic agents), analysis of leukemic cells with advanced multi-color flow cytometry, functional assays with in vitro cell culture and transcriptome analysis (RNA-Seq). The post doc is expected to perform a combination of experimental laboratory work and bioinformatics analysis, in collaboration with other members of the team. The focus will be on the link between transcriptional regulation and intracellular signaling in relation to recurrent mutations in tumor suppressor genes and oncogenes. The overall aim is to investigate the potential for new targeted therapies for precision medicine, and is a continuation based previous results in the project. The applicant is encouraged to highlight and describe any relevant previous work in relation to transcriptional regulation and intracellular signaling pathways. We seek a highly motivated candidate with Ph.D. in a relevant area of biology (e.g. molecular biology, immunology, hematology, cancer) who has a strong interest in academic research.
Some traveling must be expected (e.g. participation at scientific conferences), and there is an opportunity for a visiting stay in a collaborating laboratory in the US.
Qualifications
Applicant must possess a Ph.D. (or equivalent degree) in a relevant field
Excellent written and spoken English communication.
Ability to work independently and take initiative to drive the project forward
Ability to collaborate with others and actively participate, contribute positively and take on responsibilities within the team.
Experience with general molecular laboratory work.
Experience with in vitro cell culture and strong sterile technique skills
Willingness to work with in vivo models and human samples (e.g. patient derived samples).
Willingness and interest to work with a combination of experimental laboratory work and in silico bioinformatics analysis of whole genome transcriptome data (RNA-Seq). Previous experience with this combination of expertise will be weighted positive.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with one or more of the following:
Flow cytometry and FACS sorting.
Assays relevant to measure leukemic growth and drug sensitivity testing
In vivo murine models.
Experience with high-throughput sequencing (e.g. RNA-Seq; experiments and analysis).
Personal qualities
Personal motivation and suitability for the position and the project tasks will be an important aspect of the evaluation. The extent to which the candidate’s theoretical background and knowledge in experimental methods fit with the project needs will also be an important aspect of the evaluation.
We offer
An academic challenging and friendly working environment
Salary according to the OUH salary scale, depending on qualifications.
Favorable pension arrangement and Attractive welfare benefits
The successful candidate will be part of an active and expanding research group with a broad expertise in immunological and blood malignancy research. Lab facilities and equipment, including access to core facilities, are excellent, and the group is part of the newly established K.G. Jebsen Centre for B cell Malignancies, and has several active international collaborations….
