Position Description

We are looking for a talented Postdoc Research Scientist in the area of Drug and Gene Delivery and Preclinical Asthma and Cancer Therapeutics to join multidisciplinary research team in the translational Bio-pharma Engineering Nanodelivery Research Laboratory of Dr. Mahavir Chougule at the Department of Drug Delivery and Pharmaceutics, School of Pharmacy, University of Mississippi, University, MS. Successful candidates will be involved in the development of combination therapies, siRNA/drug loaded nano-delivery systems, immunology and in vitro and in vivo evaluation of these therapies for the treatment of lung cancer and asthma.The Postdoctoral Research Scientist would be responsible for design, development, and evaluation of dual drug and gene delivery based polymeric and lipidic nanoparticles including improving delivery of nanosystems for the treatment of pulmonary disorders such as lung cancer and asthma. The postdoc fellow will also work on pediatric neuroblastoma. He/she will be responsible for an application of various methods of polymer modification and nanoparticle development and evaluation, in vitro and in vivo tumor/asthma models, pharmacokinetics, bio-imaging, and molecular biology techniques such as cell/tissue-based assays, Flow Cytometry, Confocal and Fluorescence Microscopy, Western Blotting, RT-PCR, and Immunohistochemistry, etc. The goal is to evaluate anticancer/anti-asthmatic effect of drug and gene based combination therapies using nanoparticles.

Our laboratory’s focus is in the development and assessment of combination therapies and targeted siRNA/drugs delivery systems based on nanotechnology for the treatment of cancer or asthma by utilizing multi-disciplinary sciences and techniques. Our team collaborated with medical researchers and/or bioengineers from renowned institutions like, the University of Utah, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Michigan State University, Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute, and Arizona State University.

Candidate Requirements: The ideal candidate should have a Ph.D. degree in the field of pharmaceutical science/biomedical science/bioengineering/chemical engineering/biotechnology and/or M.D. anda minimum of 5-6 years of experience in the area of drug/siRNA loaded polymeric nanoparticle or polymer modifications, and combination based cancer or pulmonary disease therapies. The successful candidate will be a scientifically driven, multi-tasker, well-organized self-starter with a track record of effective communication of previous work in both oral and written format. A strong background in drug/siRNA nanoparticle based delivery systems, enhancing the delivery of nanoparticle at disease sites, cancer or/and asthma therapeutics and including various in vitro and in vivo techniques is crucial. Candidate should have an excellent experimental and writing skills, a strong track record of peer-reviewed publications, grant writing and student advising/training experience. Significant experience with a broad range of targeted drug and gene delivery and lung and cancer or asthma biology and therapeutics is essential. The fellow candidate should be highly motivated, and capable of working as a team with excellent interpersonal skills.He or she will be responsible for providing expertise in the design, development, evaluation, implementation, and analysis of research projects. Additional responsibilities include performing experiments to initiate and generate data to support newer projects, writing grant applications and manuscripts for peer review. The candidate with a post Ph.D experiences from the well-reputed institutes or North American University is preferred for this position.
