Job Description

Do you want to perform innovative research in computational mathematics and scientific computing? Are you passionate about developing new algorithms and approaches to address challenges posed by complex applications or next-generation computing hardware? We are seeking Postdoctoral Appointees to research/develop multilevel solver algorithms for strongly-coupled multiphysics systems on advanced architectures. In this role, you will work collaboratively on a multidisciplinary research team conducting fundamental algorithmic research. You will also develop high-performance parallel numerical software that will run on some of the largest supercomputers in the world. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Conduct leading-edge research in scalable preconditioning methods for sparse linear systems arising from multiphysics models + Develop high-performance, C++ numerical algorithms for distributed memory multicore architectures + Analyze and improve algorithmic and parallel scalability of sparse linear solvers within multiphysics simulations on leading DOE computing platforms + Communicate your research in peer-reviewed journal publications and conference presentations + Travel as needed to support ongoing projects

Required:

+ You have, or are pursuing a PhD in mathematics, computer science, or related engineering or science discipline and possess a bachelor’s in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) + You possess an expertise in numerical linear algebra + Your background includes experience with parallel iterative linear solver and preconditioning techniques + Your research experience includes presentations, technical publications, released software, and/or work with applications + You have experience in advanced object-oriented programming in C++ + Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Security Clearance

Desired:

+ Experience working in collaborative software development environments + Experience in high-performance computing on distributed, parallel manycore architectures + Experience utilizing C++ component software libraries for scientific software development + Experience with parallel programming such as MPI, OpenMP, CUDA, etc. + Experience developing or working with Trilinos or a comparable scientific software library

The Computational Mathematics Department (01442) conducts research in computational and applied mathematics motivated by science and engineering applications of interest to Sandia National Laboratories and the U.S. Department of Energy. Members of the department interact and collaborate with a broad range of Sandia and DOE staff and also maintain a research presence in the external professional community by collaborating with universities and industry, publishing peer-reviewed literature, participating in professional societies, and refereeing and editing for journals.

Security Clearance:
