POSTDOCTORAL POSITIONS IN BIOPHYSICS & STRUCTURAL BIOLOGY OF DNA REPAIR & RECOMBINATION and ELECTRON TRANSFER ENZYMES Multiple postdoctoral positions are available in the lab of Prof. Edwin Antony at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. We are looking for exceptionally driven and motivated researchers who will strive to carry out projects that decipher the molecular underpinnings of enzyme complexes. Three specific postdoctoral positions are available. We will also consider research scientists who have been trained in the specific skillsets detailed under each position. The ideal researcher for the positions will have a strong background in in vitro biochemistry using recombinantly purified protein complexes. For the NIH-funded positions below, experience in either single-molecule biophysics, structural biology (especially cryo-EM microscopy), enzyme kinetics (stopped flow fluorescence), molecular biology and/or biochemistry of protein-nucleic acid interactions will be required. For the DOE-funded position, a strong background in working with proteins in a glove box is required along with experience using EPR and other spectroscopic or bioinorganic tools. Saint Louis University School of Medicine provides ample opportunities for cutting edge, interdisciplinary and collaborative research. Position 1: Molecular and structural basis of RPA function in DNA repair This project is funded by multiple R01 grants from the NIH. We aim to decipher how replication protein A (RPA) functions to recruit DNA-Repair enzymes onto DNA. A wide range of experimental tools are deployed including, cryo-EM, single-molecule microscopy, rapid kinetics, fluorescence using non-canonical amino acids, and hydrogen-deuterium exchange.

Position 2: Single molecule studies of electron transfer in nitrogenase-like enzymes This project is funded by the Department of Energy. We aim to decipher how DPOR (dark operative protochlorophyllide oxidoreductase), a key enzyme in the dark-driven chlorophyll biosynthetic pathway, catalyzes multi-electron substrate reduction reactions. A wide range of experimental tools are deployed including, cryo-EM, single-molecule microscopy, rapid kinetics, fluorescence using non-canonical amino acids, and hydrogen-deuterium exchange. In addition, we use EPR and other bioinorganic tools to investigate the properties of its metal centers.
