Job Description

The Polytechnic University of Bari opened a call for a PostDoc position in the field of biophotonics (Chip-based wide field-of-view nanoscopy, https://www.nature.com/articles/nphoton.2017.55) in cooperation with the group of prof. Thomas Huser, Universität Bielefeld. The deadline is February 12, 2021.

Only PostDoc researchers who have completed their PhDs between February 2016 and February 2021 can participate.

Research project title

Chip-based approaches for microscopy aimed at the localization of single cells with applications in the field of precision oncology and liquid biopsies.

Research project abstract

Liquid biopsies are based on minimally invasive blood tests and could significantly change the therapeutic strategy in cancer patients in a few years.

The practical implementation of liquid biopsies and their large-scale use in clinical practice demands, among other things, the development innovative optical microscopy techniques with resolution of the order of ten nanometers (nanoscopy).

Current optical nanoscopy techniques use a very complex microscope that generally includes several high-precision optical and laser sources for imaging and a simple slide to hold the biological sample.

The project aims at a paradigm shift in the field of microscopy, developing a complex but low-cost fabricable optical chip that houses the sample to be analyzed and includes suitable guiding structures to convey the light coming from the illumination source.
