The Varela and van Praag laboratories labs, located on the Jupiter campus of Florida Atlantic University, https://www.fau.edu/ibrain/, are looking for highly motivated postdoctoral researchers to study the neural basis of memory. The van Praag lab investigates the functional properties of adult-born hippocampal neurons and their role in activity dependent neural plasticity in mice https://www.fau.edu/ibrain/vanpraag/. The Varela lab uses extracellular electrophysiology in behaving rats to study the dynamics of cellular interactions that facilitate the consolidation of memory www.varelalab.org

Applicants should hold (or soon receive) a Ph.D. in Neuroscience or a related discipline. Experience with brain slice or in vivo circuit physiology (electrophysiology, rodent behavior, calcium imaging, or chemo/optogenetics) experiments are preferred, but not required. Successful applicants should be highly self-motivated, have outstanding experimental skills, and be able to think independently but also work well in a collaborative team environment. At least one first- authored publication from previous research work is required to be eligible.
