Postdoctoral scientist Computational Pharmacogenomics

Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral scientist to lead a computational pharmacogenomic project. The goal of the project is to characterize tumor responses to therapeutics in childhood cancers. To do so, the candidate will mine genomic and pharmacological data of patient-derived-xenograft models, and will lead analysis of single-cell RNA sequencing data.

The candidate is expected to work closely with the PI and collaborators. Qualifications of the candidate include trainings in bioinformatics, computational biology, or a related discipline; proficient use of a programing language and the Linux environment; and a first-author publication in a peer-reviewed journal. Training and experience in cancer biology are welcome but not required. Candidates with good communication skills are preferred.

Responsibilities include data analysis, algorithm design, report, and manuscript preparation. The candidate will receive committed supervision from the PI, but is expected to grow independence gradually. In our lab, we value career development for our trainees. The PI is committed to supporting trainees for competing for fellowships, high-profile publications, and academic awards.

Our lab is located at Greehey Children’s Cancer Research Institute (GCCRI), University of Texas Health San Antonio. The lab currently has four postdoctoral scientists from multiple cultural backgrounds. GCCRI is housed in a state-of-the-art 100,000 sq. ft. building, and is the largest free-standing childhood cancer research facility in Texas, USA. The building is home to the genome sequencing facility, siRNA/CRISPR screening facility, bioinformatics core, and 17 research labs. These labs work on different aspects of childhood cancer and are highly synergized. Such synergy leads to abundant collaborations and an intellectually stimulating academic environment.

Salary & Benefits

Salary starts at $53,760 and is negotiable with candidate’s experience. We provide full retirement benefits and outstanding health insurance at the UT system.
