美国明尼苏达大学2021年招聘博士后职位(光学成像)

Optical imaging postdoc to investigate circuit mechanisms of early networks

Smith Lab – University of Minnesota, Minneapolis MN

The Smith Lab at the University of Minnesota is seeking a postdoctoral researcher for a fully funded multi-year position to study the formation and plasticity of large-scale neural networks in the cortex. This research will employ cutting-edge multiphoton imaging and optogenetics together with computational methods to measure and manipulate cortical networks in vivo during development.

This position is funded by a US-German CRCNS Research Grant joint with computational and theoretical neuroscientist Matthias Kaschube at the Frankfurt Institute for Advanced Studies. Our goals are to dissect the organization of functional networks at early stages in development. This project will combine optical imaging and optogenetics with computational modeling and advanced data analysis tools. In addition to this experimental position, a second primarily theoretical doctoral position is offered by Dr. Kaschube and based in Frankfurt. This joint project offers extensive opportunities for collaboration and exchange between groups and extends our previous joint work (Smith et al., Nat Neurosci, 2015 & 2018).

Preferred candidates will have a Ph.D. or equivalent in neuroscience, biology, or related field, and experience in one or more of the following areas: multiphoton imaging, optogenetics, calcium imaging, and / or in vivo electrophysiology. Applicants without prior experience in these areas but with a strong interest in applying optical approaches to investigate circuit function are also encouraged to apply.

Please apply to Gordon Smith (gbsmith@umn.edu) by sending (in PDF format) a brief statement of intent, a curriculum vitae, and the names of at least two scientists who can give references. This position is available immediately and will remain open until filled. Individuals interested in the theoretical portion of the joint project may also contact Matthias Kaschube at kaschube@fias.uni-frankfurt.de.

The Smith lab is a member of the Optical Imaging Medical Discovery Team (https://med.umn.edu/brain-science), a $30M initiative at UMN establishing a highly collaborative group of research labs focused on utilizing optical approaches to uncover the function and organization of neural circuits. The post-doctoral fellow will join the intellectually rich neuroscience community at UMN, which brings together behaviorists, electrophysiologists, and computational neuroscientists, and includes the world leading Center for Magnetic Resonance Research. UMN is an excellent training environment for postdocs, with extensive support for trainees and a strong postdoctoral association (https://pda.umn.edu/).

Salary will be commensurate with experience, and competitive for postdoctoral researchers. The position includes an excellent comprehensive benefits package, including low cost medical, dental, and pharmacy plans, as well as paid holidays, vacation and sick leave.
