Postdoctoral Associate Bioinformatics/Antibiotic Discovery

We are seeking a creative scientist with a background in computational biology and microbiology to lead a genomic analysis-based antibiotic discovery project.

The successful applicant will join a team of talented researchers at the Antibiotic Discovery Center. Several drug lead candidates came out of our Center – ADEP (Conlon et al., Nature 2013); teixobactin (Ling et al., Nature 2015); darobactin (Imai et al., Nature 2019; Hundeep et al., Nature 2021), and additional ones are in the process of characterization. Our findings show that there is a great opportunity to speed up discovery by introducing genomics-based computational approaches to identify both superior analogs of novel compounds we discovered, and novel ones based on pattern and network analysis of biosynthetic gene clusters. The computational project is a collaboration with Marnix Medema, the developer of antiSMASH, and Doug Mitchell, developer of RRE-Finder.

A strong record of publications in computational biology is an essential requirement. Familiarity with biosynthetic gene clusters is a plus. The appointment will be for a minimum of 2 years with possible extension, starting immediately. If needed, work can be performed remotely. Competitive salary commensurate with experience, up to $55,000 annually, and a package of benefits.
