We are looking for highly motivated and independent postdoctoral fellow to join our team in the laboratory of Dr. Qiao Joe Zhou at Weill Cornell Medical College of Cornell University in New York City.

Our laboratory studies cell fate determination and cell fate engineering of pancreatic islets and intestinal stem cells. Our lab made an exciting discovery that stomach epithelial cells can be readily reprogrammed into functional insulin-secreting cells. One project is focused on developing a suite of technologies to induce cultured human stomach stem cells into functional insulin-secreting cells and evaluating their therapeutic potential to treat type 1 diabetes (T1D). We are also studying interactions between gastric insulin+ cells and immune cells to determine how these cells function in the T1D autoimmune milieu.

A second project is focused on large intestine stem cells. We identified factors that control colonic stem cell identity and function. Knockout of these factors can lead to frank conversion of colonic epithelium into small intestine epithelium. We are investigating the involvement of these factors in short-bowel disease, inflammatory bowel diseases, and colorectal cancer, their mechanisms of action, and therapeutic development.

We employ a diverse array of latest technologies in our laboratory including stem cell culture, CRSPR-CAS9, mouse genetic models, epigenetics, single-cell sequencing, and transplantation.

The candidate should have a PhD or MD degree, a minimum of three years of laboratory experience, and at least one first-author publication that demonstrates proficiency in research. He/she should have rigorous training in at least one of the following fields: stem cell biology, development, molecular biology, physiology, biochemistry, genetics, or bioengineering.
