Do you want to contribute to better health for all?

We are seeking a highly motivated and ambitious individual to join the research group of Yenan Bryceson as a Postdoctoral Fellow to translate insights to NK cell memory for cellular immunotherapy of cancer.

Previously considered an arm of the innate immune system, recent studies from our group (Schlums et al., Immunity 2015; Corat et al., Blood 2017; Schlums et al., Blood 2017; Holmes et al., Sci Immunol 2021) as well as others have uncovered and molecularly defined NK cell memory processes. A successful postdoctoral candidate will explore novel molecular aspects of human memory NK cell biology, derived from transcriptional and epigenetic analyses, and aim to translate findings for improved cellular products for immunotherapy. Methods will involve advanced flow cytometry and sorting, genome editing, cell culture and differentiation, transcriptional, epigenetic and functional analyses as well as xenogenic tumor models. The objective of this research is it to better understand NK cell-dependent immunological memory and potentially harness cellular differentiation pathways for cellular immunotherapy of cancer.

Your mission

You are expected to be a talented and enthusiastic researcher with a strong drive to perform basic research, playing an instrumental role in the elaboration of scientific hypothesis, experimental design, experimentation, data analysis and presentation/publication of results. You must be able to work within a team environment but retain enough independence to explore your results from a conceptual standpoint. You will be responsible for your own academic, research and administrative activities, adapt existing and develop new scientific techniques, test hypotheses and analyze data from a variety of sources.

Besides working on existing lab projects, postdocs are also encouraged to start their own new projects that can serve to launch their independent careers in science. Our aim is to provide a supportive environment conducive for development of independent scientists.

Your profile

Applications are invited from individuals of the highest calibre with a Ph.D. degree (2018 or later) in Immunology, Cell Biology, Hematopoiesis, ideally with proven skills in cellular immunology and/or haematopoiesis research. Excellent spoken and written English is a requirement. Applicants should have first author publications in recognized peer-reviewed journals.

The position requires experience with multiparameter flow cytometry, iPSC models and/or xenogenic mouse models. Experience with cell sorting, cell culture, genome editing, high-throughput sequencing, and bioinformatics is meriting. In addition, we believe that the successful candidate will have a strong background in immunology or hematopoiesis.

Good communication skills with the ability to present results clearly, work co-operatively as part of a team as well as independently with strong attention to detail are also essential. We will accord special weight to academic skills, particularly demonstrated excellence in research, a strong dedication, and excellent communication skills. Personal suitability is of great importance when evaluating the applicants.

Entry requirements

Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent. A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent. To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.

The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.
