Post doc position in managing soil structure for climate mitigation and adaptation

The Department of Agroecology at Aarhus University in Foulum, Denmark, is offering a Postdoctoral position in managing soil structure for climate mitigation and adaptation, starting 15-11-2021 or as soon as possible thereafter. The successful candidate will be based at the Soil Physics and Hydropedology Section, Department of Agroecology, Aarhus University, Foulum. The position is available for a 3-year period.

The successful candidate will work on CarbonFarm2 and Solgras funded by the Ministry of Environment and Food of Denmark and EJP SOIL (European Joint Program on Agricultural Soils) projects on soil management impact on climate mitigation and adaptation funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme. CarbonFarm2 aims at reducing the carbon footprint of arable farming using conservation agriculture, Soilgras at optimizing field traffic for grass harvest and limit impact on the environment. The EJP SOIL projects are aimed at developing and implementing climate-smart sustainable management of agricultural soils. In addition, the successful candidate will contribute to research-based public sector consultancy on soil management and climate mitigation and adaptation in the Department.

In CarbonFarm2, Solgras and the EJP SOIL projects, you will work experimentally with assessment of soil structural properties related to risk of nitrous oxide emission and the resilience and robustness of soils towards climate hazards. This includes quantification of gas and water flow properties, water retention and soil mechanical properties for soils with different management (tillage, traffic, residues, cover crops and rotations). It also includes the use of advanced X-ray CT technology for quantification of soil structural properties. We expect you to communicate your findings in high-impact scientific journals.
